The Women In the NAACP (W.I.N) of the Greater Hartford Branch of the NAACP, will be hosting the first annual Mrs. Ella Little Cromwell Scholarship Breakfast on Saturday, March 3, 2018. The breakfast will be held at 9:00a.m. at the Officers Club, of the Connecticut State Armory, located at 360 Broad Street, in Hartford, CT. The theme of the breakfast is Women and Courage in the New Generation. The keynote speaker will be Cynthia R. Jennings, Councilwoman, of the City of Hartford, CT. Proceeds raised from the breakfast will support the Mrs. Ella Little Cromwell Scholarship Fund which is used to provide academic scholarships to Greater Hartford students attending college. |
The Mrs. Ella Little Cromwell Scholarship fund is named after Mrs. Ella Little Cromwell, a longtime member of the Greater Hartford Branch of the NAACP. She joined the Greater Hartford Branch of the NAACP in 1935, at the age of 17. Mrs. Cromwell was a passionate and active member in the Branch. She served on the Executive Board for many years until her passing in 2006. She was a consummate leader, advocate, and activist in the City of Hartford and was affectionately referred to as Queen Ella or the Godmother of Northend politics.
